Role Description The Social Worker – Cultural Program Assistant (Canada Summer Job) is a 4 Month contract, on-site role based in Mississauga, ON. This role supports culturally responsive programs for newcomers and community members by assisting with intake, needs assessments, and referrals to appropriate resources and services. The position involves planning and facilitating workshops, group activities, and orientation sessions focused on settlement, employment readiness, and environmental awareness. The Cultural Program Assistant will help coordinate mentorship and internship activities, maintain accurate records, and gather feedback to improve program delivery. The role also includes outreach to community partners, supporting communication with participants from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds, and collaborating with other team members to ensure programs are inclusive, safe, and aligned with CANSEF’s mission.

Qualifications

  • Education in social work, social services, psychology, community development, or a related human services field (or equivalent combination of education and experience).
  • Experience supporting newcomers, immigrants, refugees, or culturally diverse communities, with a strong commitment to equity, inclusion, and anti-oppressive practice.
  • Skills in client support, including basic assessment, active listening, goal-setting, and referral to community resources and settlement services.
  • Program and workshop skills, including assisting with planning, organizing, facilitating group sessions, and evaluating program effectiveness.
  • Communication and interpersonal skills, including clear written and verbal communication, cross-cultural sensitivity, and the ability to build trust with participants and partners.
  • Organizational and administrative skills, including time management, accurate record-keeping, basic data entry, and the ability to follow program guidelines and deadlines.
  • Ability to work on-site in Mississauga, ON, collaborate effectively in a small team, and adapt to changing program needs over the course of the contract.
  • Familiarity with environmental or sustainability issues, and interest in integrating these themes into social and cultural programming, is an asset.
